Older Persons' Council
The NPTOPC was set up in 2005 to support the
Neath Port Talbot Strategy for Older People (See link below).
However, the role of the NPTOPC has evolved and become increasingly
important to not only the Local Authority and its' implementation
of the Strategy, but also to other organisations such as the
Health Service, Community Safety Partnership, Welsh Government, the
Voluntary Sector and many others.
The main purpose of the NPTOPC is to act as a
link between such organisations and those over the age of 50 in the
community. It aims to inform, liaise and consult on issues
which have an impact upon the opportunities and services which
contribute to their quality of life, such as access to
transport, employment opportunities and long term
care.
Our partners consider such consultation and
the gathered opinions from older people as vitally important
when considering and developing policy, or changing and
delivering services. This is especially so in view of
the increasing number of older people, their more complex needs and
a forecast of ever more challenging resources to meet those
needs.
